Cowboy Geeks

Suddenly I find the reason why I created this odd and dark patch of the Ethernet that sits in its own disliked and controversial corner...

The infamous David Scott Anderson's blog In Search of Utopia (aka ISOU) has been (as Sadie worded it) completely obliterated. The fuckwits at the datacenter which hosted his site formatted the server and the backup server - simultaneously. Personally whoever was responsible should be reproved with the threat of castration. Hell, why threaten them... just do it!

Ok, so perhaps some of you may find sympathy that this was just a mistake... but in the tech world these kind of mistakes should NEVER happen. For a start, if the company had ANY sense, they would have fail safe procedures in place and if they had ANY knowledge of how to configure servers properly or use a RAID system then this would not have happened. It merely highlights the nightmarish fact that we are at the mercy of cowboys who don't know a mouse from a rat.

Gall! This pisses me off when companies and corporations - no matter how big or small - make total fuck-ups and fob them off as a 'mistake'. NO! This was not a mistake, this was a screw up beyond all proportions.

The last I read was that the young Mr Anderson has not even received a phone call from the guy who effectively pulled the plug on this exceptional weblog and if David doesn't go and pull their toenails out whilst they sleep then he truly is a magnanimous fellow.

Please give him his support folks. He can be found here at his temporary home until further notice.

Internet Banking

Can be so fucked up sometimes! Ok, the actual bank itself is jolly good and I can't complain, but the fact that a certain banking group makes you go through the ENTIRE fucking log in procedure (a series of 6 different questions randomized from answers you provided to 24+ questions they gave you when you signed up) only to tell you

"We are sorry but there is maintenance taking place on the site at present. Please check back go through the entire fucking log-in procedure again in a couple of hours to access your account find out we still are fucking with the servers."

Little Legs

I swear to god that they must keep the child that lives upstairs on an IV of pure sugar ALL MOTHERFUCKING DAY. I mean our apartment isn't that big, there is no way in hell that someone should be running from room to room like its a fucking mansion!!!! I would love nothing more in this world to cut a circle out of the ceiling and place fake flooring over it so his/her little legs would fall through my roof and then I can bite off his/her little toes so that they can never walk again!!!!!!!!!!

Blogger Block

I've been suffereing recently with blogger block and it is driving me absolutely nuts!!! There have been times when i've seen something or come up with a fantastic idea and i'm not near the computer and usually when I get home to type it up it just doesn't feel right. Kinda like the moment is gone and that it wouldn't have the same pizaze that it could have had when you initially thought of the idea! Grr!

Daytime TV

Daytime TV sucks. I am shocked we do not hear of more daytimers losing it and going postal. I thought the status of daytime TV in the UK was bad enough having the likes of crappy English talkshows, home improvement programs and imported dodgy American soap operas...

Since my graduation to the US of A I have discovered that they have crappy American talkshows, low budget home improvement programs and exported dodgy American soap operas...

The only real difference is the lack of cookery programs which the UK seem to churn out for the late-nooners and always get your mouth watering for afternoon tea.

The only saving grace for TV here is they have Ellen which is actually a funny and decent chat show with (dare I say it) jolly decent guests (Sean Astin and Nicole Kidman have both featured this week) but it still isn't enough. All those people who work late shifts and get to miss the prime time shows have to watch this tripe! It isn't right.

When I was in Canada a few years ago I noticed they ran repeats of the previous late night talk shows (both US and Canadian) during the following 24-hours on some channels. It was great because I was on vacation there, living it up during the night and recovering in the morning at the hotel to decent levels of TV.

And what is it with all these fucking judges on TV? Those in England would probably have heard of Judge Judy... but for those that don't know, she is like the Oprah of courtroom TV here... now you have the likes of Judge Joe Brown, Judge Mathis, Divorce Court, The People's Court, Judge Mills Lane, Judge Glenda.... holy cow the list goes on! The only judge missing is Judge Reinhold who is a fine actor and would raise the crap levels of daytime tele instantly.

What makes these shows worse is that they have a crappy 70s cop show theme tune and everyone is SCREAMING AT EACH OTHER in court! Aaaaaaaaaaargh!
